School Ties, I felt, I could relate more as it better reflects the lives of my peers and I. This is because it focusses more on school life and the pressure that accompanies it. A character that I could relate to was Charlie Dillon because of his stressful and intense situation. In School Ties Charlie faces relatable adversities like pressure and stress to do well, a sibling out shining you, awkward social affairs and pressure to do well from your parents because of what they sacrifice. A scene with Charlie Dillon that I found particularly interesting and easy to connect with was when he said:
Good grades, the right schools, the right colleges, the right connections–those are the keys to the kingdom. None of us ever goes off and lives by his wits. We do the things they tell us to do and then they give us the good life.’
I think I could relate to this because it’s true. We are beginning to reach a similar point in our lives where we need to be getting the grades and into the right school because that will ultimately dictate our career path and what we do in the future.
