I believe that both of the texts were similar however School Ties I found was superior. Both texts displayed teen issues and explored larger issues like racism and discrimination and had well described and realistic characters like the bully or antagonist, the protagonist and the clown etc. An example of their similarity is how both display teen romance where Blacky has dreams, his thoughts take over his mind as he is smitten. This also implied where Sally says to David ‘I have a confession to make, I think about you more than I ought to’.
However, where School Ties out shines Deadly Unna is that itt better reflects my situation and that of my peers where school life and pressure are key components. Also the story of School Ties is more enticing, clear and consistent through its entirety whereas I felt that Deadly Unna slowed and became less interesting after the grand final.
