Reconciliation is a theme explored in the later parts of the book where Blacky feels guilty and tries to find forgiveness and break the cycle for the hate in his community. Blacky states that ‘I didn’t feel comfortable, I felt guilty in some way. I hadn’t written it, but I hadn’t scratched it out either.’ Eventually Blacky makes a start to reconcile and removes the graffiti from the shed it was on. I have experienced situation similar to this is if I mistreat one of my brothers or close friends and reconcile by apologising, talking and try to make amends through actions or activities to assure they know what they mean to me.
A time when I have done this was on my brothers fourth birthday. Somehow I had managed to upset him and to reconcile and be forgiven I spent three or four hours playing with him and his new toys, because like Blacky I felt like that was the appropriate start to reconciliation.
